正月十五 15th Day
- On the 15th day of the first month in Chinese lunar calendar is Lantern Festival, it is the first full moon night of the year.
- In the morning, there will be a parade of dragon and lion dances in the street. In the evening families go out together to enjoy the full moon and appreciate colourful lanterns and solve lantern riddles. Children will hold their own lantern and play with others.
- Chinese people also eat ‘yuan xiao’ on the day, it’s a traditional food made of glutinous rice flour and water mixed together into a dough then separated in to small balls, it can be sweet or savoury depends on the stuffing and the way its cooked. It symbolizes family togetherness and reunion.
- This day officially marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations.
