Tai Chi Instructor
Originally from Spain, José de la Cruz began his Tai Chi journey as a means to recover from a back injury sustained at the age of 18 after falling from a tree. In 2005, he started practicing both Qi Gong and Tai Chi under the guidance of Mrs. M.X. Li, a highly respected cultural mentor at Pagoda Arts.
José’s dedication to the practice, along with his natural precision and strong teaching instincts, quickly became apparent. By 2009, Mrs. Li recognised his potential not only as a student but as a future tutor, praising his excellent technique, body positioning, and ability to support fellow learners through peer-to-peer instruction.
Embracing this path, José joined Pagoda’s Tai Chi tutor training pilot scheme, where he began leading beginner-level classes and supporting outreach sessions with community groups, including the African Elderly Association. He also began training to adapt Tai Chi instruction for young people, broadening the impact of his teaching.
Today, José teaches both beginner and intermediate Tai Chi classes at Pagoda Arts. His thoughtful, inclusive teaching style reflects his belief in Tai Chi as a lifelong tool for improving physical health, mental balance, and community connection. He remains a valued and inspiring member of the Pagoda Arts team, helping others discover the strength and calm of this ancient practice.
