Job Title: Education & Youth Worker (Part-time – Maternity Leave Cover)

Hours: 15 hours per week (part-time).
Some flexibility in working hours is available; however, availability is required for fixed activities such as weekend youth orchestra rehearsals and school holiday culture clubs (3 days per week during holidays).
There may be occasional requirements to work different hours for performances or special events, with notice.
Salary: £11.40 – £13.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Equivalent Annual Salary (Part-Time): £8,922 – £9,900 (based on 15 hours per week)
Contract Duration: 9 months (maternity leave cover)
Overview:
Pagoda Arts is seeking a passionate and dynamic Education & Youth Worker with a deep understanding of Chinese culture and a background in music to cover a maternity leave for 9 months. This role involves supporting the development and delivery of our cultural education programs, organising and running school holiday cultural schemes, and assisting with our youth orchestra practice and performances. The position requires strong administrative skills, creative planning abilities, and the capacity to engage young people in cultural and musical learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Cultural Education & Planning:
Develop and deliver engaging, educational, and fun cultural schemes that promote Chinese heritage, arts, and traditions.
Run culture clubs for young people (3 days per week during school holidays), fostering an interest in Chinese culture and arts.
Youth Orchestra Support:
Assist with the coordination and running of youth orchestra rehearsals during weekends.
Support young musicians in their practice sessions, ensuring a productive and encouraging environment.
Help prepare for youth orchestra performances, including logistical support and organisation of rehearsals.
Administration:
Handle general administrative duties related to the cultural schemes and youth orchestra activities, including maintaining records, managing schedules, and ensuring communication with participants and families.
Assist with the preparation of reports and evaluations for cultural programs.
Maintain up-to-date records for attendance, participant progress, and feedback.
Engagement & Support:
Provide guidance and support to youth participants, helping them develop both culturally and musically.
Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and a passion for Chinese culture.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
A good knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture, traditions, and arts.
A background in music, ideally with experience in orchestra performance or music teaching.
Experience working with children and young people in an educational or youth work setting.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage activities, events, and schedules effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing needs and demands.
Passionate about youth development, cultural exchange, and arts education.
Desirable:
Experience in delivering or planning school holiday programs or cultural schemes.
Knowledge of Chinese musical instruments or traditional arts.
